Jakarta to be the pioneer of Low-Carbon Tourism city in ASEAN in the celebration of Earth Day 2023

In celebration of Earth Day, Disparekraf DKI Jakarta with Bumi Journey and Jakarta Good Guide hosted a low-carbon tour as the first step to making Jakarta the pioneer destination of low-carbon tourism in ASEAN. This event consists of 3 tourist routes and a focus group discussion session which aims not only to increase tourist awareness about the impact of climate change on tourism but also to educate them on how to travel low carbon or #TravelCooler.

Jakarta, 29 April 2023 – In celebration of Earth Day, Disparekraf DKI Jakarta with Bumi Journey and Jakarta Good Guide hosted a low-carbon tour as the first step to making Jakarta the pioneer destination of low-carbon tourism in ASEAN. This event also aims to increase the awareness of tourists about the impacts of climate change on tourism and to educate them about how to travel low-carbon or #TravelCooler.

The guests on this tour did fun low-carbon activities all around Jakarta, played the race to net zero games, and had a focus group discussion. There were three routes designed to introduce nine low-carbon activity choices to do in the North, South, Central, and West Jakarta, from planting mangroves and organic urban farming to vegan cake decorating. All the elements of the tour were designed to be as low carbon as possible, including the food.

“This is a new innovation and the pioneer in Jakarta’s unique tour package choices that promotes sustainability and eco-friendliness from the destinations and activities to the culinary. Jakarta Tourism Board will keep pushing the stakeholders to promote these low-carbon packages to domestic and international tourists,” said Triatin Permanik, the Head of Domestic Tourism Promotion of Jakarta Tourism Board.

As one of the content creators who joined the event, Canisius Andrew, commented, “This is such a unique opportunity to travel while helping to save the earth from climate change with such a fun program. I hope more people will know and participate in this low-carbon tourism!”

The success of the Jakarta Low-Carbon Tourism event supports the Indonesia Ministry of Tourism to make Indonesia the pioneer destination for low-carbon tourism in ASEAN. In addition, this momentum becomes crucial as Indonesia is the host country of ASEAN 2023.
